Handmade belts in Muddy Pond

Handmade belts in Muddy Pond

Nestled in the Tennessee hollers, a hidden community preserves tradition on sprawling farms and quiet roads. Cellphone signals fade, offering a retreat from modern life.
We make a right turn and keep going for miles. The road narrows as the houses gradually give way to sprawling farms. All cellphone service is non-existent. We're in Mennonite country now.

We eventually spot a country diner and stop for a bite to eat. Pulled pork barbecue sandwiches on homemade buns, and a Coke (though all sodas are cokes here).

Dotted along the roadside are small businesses for handmade craft items of all types-- straw hats, hand-carved wooden chairs, and baskets. This small community, regionally known for its Sorghum Mill, has recently surged in popularity.

Our friend starts production on our leather belts. Each one meticulously made reflecting years of care in his craft. He tells us that he learned a large part from his father, but spent years learning more through trial and error.

We end with a perfect slim belt. Rugged enough to give a western flair to tailoring. Slimmed down to eliminate bulk and add style without compromising durability. Punched with seven holes for good luck, and easily worn around any garment with loops—embodying traditional craftsmanship at its finest.
